Dropbox is set to acquire Tigris Data for $350 million, marking its largest deal since 2007. The cloud storage company announced the purchase on 5 November to bolster its new DBX Agent Cloud platform for developers. Tigris Data was founded by former Uber engineers and specialises in distributed storage for AI workloads.

The startup raised $25 million in a Series A round 2025 and has grown eightfold annually since 2021. Dropbox also revealed AI features for its core product, enabling file search and third-party model integration. The company cut nine percent of its workforce October 2026 but does not plan headcount reductions for this acquisition.

This move signals Dropbox’s push into the developer AI market while stabilising its core business. The deal will integrate Tigris’s technology into Dropbox’s expanding suite of tools for software engineers. Developers should monitor how the new platform impacts their existing storage and AI workflows as the integration proceeds.
