Google Cloud released the Data Agent Kit and streaming support for API Gateway on 4 November. The Data Agent Kit brings Model Context Protocol tooling to integrated development environments like VS Code. Google also announced public preview streaming support for API Gateway to help build real-time AI applications and multi-step agent workflows.
The new API Gateway streaming feature supports Server-Sent Events, WebSockets, and gRPC protocols. Developers can now use deterministic gateway hostnames in the format GATEWAY_ID-PROJECT_NUMBER.REGION.gateway.dev. The platform replaces brittle extract, transform, and load pipelines with a system of action for AI agents.
The Data Agent Kit and streaming API Gateway features help developers build more reliable AI agents. The streaming support enables real-time communication for complex workflows. These tools aim to improve the performance and integration of AI agents within existing development environments.
