OpenAI has shelved its initial public offering plans and lowered its fundraising target by $10 billion to $20 billion. The company’s target valuation has also dropped from $1.4 trillion to $1.25 trillion. The round is intended as a bridge to cover massive computing costs.

The largest backer for the round is a consortium from the UAE that includes MGX. Investors have pulled back after a sharp reversal in the AI stock market. The Nasdaq Composite fell 2.9 percent on the day of the report.

This shift reflects the cooling of the AI investment boom and the challenges of sustaining high valuations. OpenAI plans to be a public company in 2027. Companies relying on heavy capital expenditure should brace for a more cautious funding environment.
