Perplexity launched Teammates, a set of always-on AI agents designed to handle work tasks. The company describes the new feature as an upgrade to its search engine that lets users deploy agents within a workspace. These agents can manage multiple tasks at the same time, aiming to automate daily workflows for professionals.
The feature is built on Perplexity Computer and requires a subscription to the $200 monthly Max plan. Users can track the agents’ progress through app threads or via direct integration with Slack. CEO Aravind Srinivas predicts that organizations will eventually deploy hundreds of teammates for every employee. Perplexity positions Teammates as a direct rival to OpenAI’s Dots and Anthropic’s Claude Duet.
This move expands Perplexity’s competition in the enterprise AI space by offering persistent automation tools. The high price point suggests the service targets businesses with significant budgets. For developers and enterprises, Teammates offers a way to offload repetitive tasks to autonomous agents that operate continuously. You can now assign specific roles to AI agents that work in the background to handle your workload.
